Winged Shadows

As I stood silently in the shower, letting the hot water run down my back, I felt cold arms wrap around my waist. The steam in the air swirled as if their was a breeze. I felt someones cold cheek touch my ear. "Soon, my beloved. Soon....." He whispered, his breath cold as winter against my face. "Never." I whispered back. The steam enveloped my face and I felt the cold, shadow presence fade into nothingness. To this day, I wish I had accepted then and there. As I dried down and threw my silky soft pajama bottoms and shirt on, I heard a shouted yelp of surprise from down stairs. I threw open the door and raced to the stairs. " Cane! Cryi! Ru-" But my dad's cry was broken off by a horrible gurgle. I wanted to scream, but my throat was locked tight. Something like a spider flew up the stairs. I raced to my parents room, threw open the big wooden chest and hid inside it, My gut clenching and sweat breaking out on my forehead. "Cyri!" My brother's scream cut through me like a knife."Cane!" I cried, breaking out of the chest, unable to hide any longer. I rushed to my brothers room and stopped, dead with fear. The shadow spider thing was a man dressed in black. He stood in my brother's window frame, staring at me. He nodded his head slightly, then jumped into the cold night and disappeared as the darkness enveloped him. I glanced around my room, searching for my brother. When I found him, I bit on my lip hard, forcing down a sob. My brother was lying on his stomach, a knife by his hand. I moaned and I sat by his side, cradling his cold and heavy head. The knife lay beside me, uncomfortably close. But I didn't care. My life was gone. My heart was gone. I was gone.

Lights flashing. White walls. Loud noises. A strange muttered word that nobody heard. Police shouting. Sirens blaring. All fading until I could only hear that one word. "Murder."

When I woke, I realized that I was sitting in a rough chair, a table in front of me. I tried moving, but my hands were cuffed to my back. Fear laced through me, but I forced it back. Suddenly, the door to my left opened and two cops came in, taking places beside the door. A man entered in after them, dressed in a nice black suit with a turquoise blue tie. He smiled warmly at me, and I realized were I was as I read his badge and gazed around the room. The police station. And I was stuck in an interrogation room. One half of me roared with fury. How dare they treat me like a prisoner! While another half of me wept, wishing to tell them everything. The middle part of me won. Why? because it was cold and silent and I felt comfort there. "Hello there. Cyri, am I right? My name is Detective Brig." He said sweetly. He sat down and he shifted through some files. All the time, I stared at him with cold eyes. He shoved two pictures over to me and pointed to them. "Recognize them?" he asked softly. I looked down and winced terribly. It was a picture of my father and brother, both of their chests stabbed. "Lie...." A voice whispered in my ear. "Lie to them..... tell them...... you did it....." A cold voice whispered in my ear. Without thinking, I looked back up at the man, my eyes colder than my own, and my heart as hard as diamond. "I did it.... I killed them...." I whispered. Then, my will was my own and I let out a soft breath. Tears welled up inside me, but they didn't spill. I don't think I will ever be able to cry again.

I saw three jaws drop and six eyes widen. My own eyes narrowed and I twisted my wrists slowly against the cord behind me. The detective stood up, looking slightly happy. "Well then." he said, his voice rougher and more mean. I cocked my head slightly. "Guards. Take her to where she belongs." He said, a strange glint in the detective's eyes. The guards advanced, but suddenly, they froze, their eyes going blank. "Guards?" The detective asked, looking confused and slightly irritated. I smiled thinly and I heard a dark chuckle behind me. I stood up, much to the detective's surprise. "I can walk myself thank you." I said. I couldn't hear my voice, but by the look on the detective's face and the way he shrank five times smaller, I'm guessing it was cold. Suddenly, the guards unfroze. They shook their heads with confusion, looking around the room. Then they spotted me and seemed to check themselves. They walked over and, without touching me, led me to the place where all convict kids go. Juvenile.

Home of Freaks

I lied on my bunk, gazing at the blank concrete ceiling. I felt the faintest of cold breezes enter my cell and my eyes narrowed. I sat up and faced the shadow presence. It floated around my room before taking the form of a shadow man. I glared at it. The shadow man chuckled and leaned against my wall. "Now don't go ruining those pretty eyes with that glare sweetheart." The shadow man chuckled, his voice dry and rough, like leaves. "Can it." I snarled. "Now now dear. Wouldn't want something else to happen. Would we?" He said pleasantly. He examined my cell then chuckled dryly. "Now that your in here. I'm guessing I'm going to have to bail you." He said, gazing at the cell door. I stared at him like he was nuts. He caught my gaze and grinned. "Hmmm..... Maybe later. I want to see how you get along with the other cell mates." He purred, his form beginning to blur. His form paused for a second. "Oh, and dear? My name is Lero. Lero Dux." He said that as he disappeared into the air. I heard another dry chuckle and then he was gone. I groaned and fell back onto my bed. I thought about what he said, then something clicked in my head and I sat bolt upright. I heard the footsteps of the guards as they came to let me out for lunch. "The other cell mates." I whispered, my throat tightening.

"Alright you scum! Time for lunch! Stand at least a foot behind the door." The jailer barked. I jumped up, careful to keep a foot away from the door. They opened it and two guards slid inside and quickly snapped my hands together in hand cuffs. They shoved me forward. I let out a feral snarl and glared at them like a wild animal. They winced and took a slight step backwards before they resumed. I walked with hem, waiting in silent misery for us to arrive into the cafeteria. There, I knew all hell would break loose.

I walked through the double doors and they let go of me as I walked towards the lunch ladies, narrowing my eyes until they were feral, like a cats. The lunch ladies grunted and slopped mess onto my plate, grinning their three toothed grins as I walked past. I could hear whispers of the other convicts as I p*censored*ed them. Great. The new freak toy. I thought as I sat down. I picked at my food as I thought about what Lero had said. At the very thought of Lero my hear turned to diamond and my eyes turned colder than ice. He would pay for the misery he caused me. I know the murder of my brother and father had to do with him. There was no other possible suspect. Suddenly, I heard four girls getting up and walking over to me. I stayed still. "Hey, look at this whelp." One girl said. Her voice was gruff and held no curiosity. I heard muffled laughter. A firm and gripped my shoulder and spun me around to face my first test. She had roughly cut hair that reached her ears. She had three scars on her left eye and a long scar running down her cheek. She was tall and had a fair amount of muscle working along her body.

She bared her teeth in a smile. "Hey! She ain't as ugly as I thought! Take a look at this whelp Ann." The girl laughed. I gritted my teeth, staying as still as stone. A girl about my age with dirty blond hair that reached her shoulders shoved past the other two girls and looked at me. She grunted. "Naw. She's even uglier than the others." She snarled, grinning meanly back at me. I saw one of the other two girls twitch her fingers. Just the faintest bit of a spark flew from her fingers. My heart hardened even more. A magic user. I thought grimly. "What do you think, Gret, Chris." The one named Ann sneered. The one with the magic, Chris, stepped forward and grabbed my hair, forcing my head back. I bit my lip as hard as I could, trying not to shout in rage. Silence would be my key out of this. "I don't care how she looks. i care how she speaks. Why don't you speak pretty." Chris said, her voice more like a snakes than a girls. I closed my eyes. "I said, why don't you speak, whelp. I expect an answer." I heard Chris say. Then I felt the cool blade of a knife on my throat and I almost snapped then. "Look! She so scared, she bit her lip and drew blood!" Ann laughed.

"ANN!" The on with the scars shouted angrily. I opened my eyes to see Ann holding Gret back as Gret tried to launch herself at me. A vampire? I thought warily. I licked the blood before it dropped down my chin. "Sorry Jen." Ann muttered, holding Gret back. I found myself drawing breath to speak. Before I could hold it back, I spoke those dreaded words. "You can't hurt me you freaks." I snarled, throwing as much venom in my voice as I could. that's when i felt Lero's presence and the blade tip digging into my throat. "Careful beauty..." Lero whispered in my ear as I heard gasps of outrage. "Stupid whelp!" Jen growled. Ann growled as well and soon I had four girls glaring at me, their growls vibrating through the room. Gret's were more feral. Ann and Jen were just baring their teeth, but Chris was quieter and her eyes were shifty. Something was up. "CLEAR THE ROOM!" Jen barked, glaring at everyone in the cafeteria. The boys grumbled angrily and set aside the tables so that their was a single large space in the cafeteria room. Then they released me and shoved me so that I was at one end while they were at the other end. Jen turned to Chris and Gret. "Keep her back. You can let her go to finish her off once Ann and I are down with her." Jen snarled. Chris just blinked her response.

Ann and Jen advanced towards me, drawing knives from their boots. I could feel Lero's hand on my shoulder as he chuckled dryly. "This is going to be fun." he muttered. Then something happened. I felt a strong and strange energy flow into me, filling me up even when I was full. I felt my muscles grow stronger, yet my form stayed the same. What was Lero doing? I thought, watching the girls come closer. Then another thought struck me. Is he helping me?! There was no time to answer that though because Jen lunged at me, stabbing he knife. Everything seemed slower. Their movements sluggish. I dodged the blow, then, without thinking, I grabbed Jen's wrist, tapped her hand hard so that her knife dropped, and put her in an arm lock. She screamed in agony and Ann stopped, wide eyed. "No way." She whispered. Jen growled savagely, pain flaring through her eyes every time I inched her arm farther up into the lock. I bared my teeth and Ann flinched. I heard Lero chuckle and Chris narrowed her eyes. My teeth were sharp. Like canines. I growled. A real growl. In response, Jen whimpered and Gret struggled harder against Chris's unbreakable hold.

Jen whimpered louder when I inched her arm higher in the arm lock. "Ann...." She growled. "Get her!" Ann bared her teeth and launched herself at me. With my free hand, I grabbed her knife hand and twisted it backwards, listening as the bones snapped. She screamed and dropped to the floor in a faint, tears falling from her eyes.

I leaned in close to Jen's face and whispered into her ear. "Get out here. whelp. I'm the top dog here." I snarled. Jen whimpered and I let the two go. they raced for the exit. Suddenly, Gret was loose, Chris smiling sheepishly. Gret lunged at me with speed, slightly faster than a humans. I dodged, but Gret landed on all fours and leaped again, tackling me. I snarled viciously and Gret did as well. Gret snapped at me, trying to get to my throat. I grabbed her head between my hands and I twisted it to the left sharply, then to the right, hearing a loud crack. Gret slumped to the floor, dead.

I stood up, cracking my neck, making sure there was no wounds. Surprisingly, my skin was untouched. Jen and Ann were gone. Chris stood by the exit, staring at me with small smile on her lips. She walked over to me. I crouched down and let a low snarl escape m,y throat, but Chris put her hands up in surrender. "Easy. I mean no harm. I just need to get rid of that thing before the guards show up." Chris explained, nodding towards Gret's body. I nodded slowly and slipped out of my crouch. Chris placed a hand on Gret's forehead and muttered a few words in an unknown language. Gret's body sizzled and slowly faded away, like dust. "A vampire?" I questioned, suddenly feeling the energy draining out of me. I slumped against a cafeteria table, unaware of the witnesses. "Yeah. A newborn. Congrats. You pasted the first test." Chris said, flashing me a sideways smile that seemed eerily empty.

I narrowed my eyes. "Test? That was a test?" I growled. Chris shrugged. "Gret was a vampire, Jen was a telepath, and Ann was a mental. You know, mutants, super freaks, fantasy creatures, whatever humans call them these days." Chris said, standing back up. "What are you? A witch?" I said, not being able to keep the slip of humor in my voice out. Chris chuckled deeply. "No. I'm not a witch, but I am were cat." Chris corrected, her lip twitching slightly. I smiled smugly. "Prove it." I said, my voice sharp. Chris shrugged and she seemed to dissolve and slowly, her form blurred. A few seconds later, a large black cat sat in front of her, gazing at her calmly. She had a beautiful black mane and the tips of her ears had black ear tufts. She flicked her tail and smiled at me, baring her teeth. I took a hesitant step away from her. "Alright. I believe you. Please turn back." I said, gazing at her warily. The were cat Chris chuckled a deep throaty sound and once again, her from seemed to dissolve and blur. When it was done, Chris smiled at me.

I felt a cold form appear behind me and I froze. Chris grinned and bowed in mock respect. "Oh great an almighty Lero. What brings your ghastly presence here." Chris said, the humor thick in her voice. I felt the body behind me tremble as Lero chuckled and I felt his cold hands on my shoulders. I felt that same spark of energy flow through me and I narrowed my eyes. "Just watching over my beloved." Lero chuckled Chris cocked her head. "This girl, is the girl who love?!" She cried, pointing at me with a bewildered look on her face. Lero snarled slightly. "Yes and I would greatly appreciate it if you would stop pointing at her." He snarled. Chris's arm dropped as if it had been electrocuted. Lero moved out form behind me and I saw him clearly for the first. Time. He was tall and thin. His hair was as black as night and it reached his chin. The tips were died red, like blood. His face was like an elf's, narrowed, slender, and delicately carved. his eyes were narrowed and he had dark majestic blue eyes. His skin was pale, like the vampire Gret's skin. No wonder he was so cold. He seemed to have a black aura that surrounded him, glowing so faint that she barely saw it. But it was enough to make her stomach flip. The black aura curled and whipped out occasionally. Is that what had given her that strength? That wild desire for a fight?

What, Who, When, and How

They wlaked through the halls, not a single guard stopping them. In fact, not a single guard was in sight. "Where are all the guards?" I asked, curious as we turned a corner. Lero smiled at her and winked and Chris grimaced. My heart clenched and I growled at him. "You didn't kill them, did you?" I growled. He raised his hands in mock defense and chuckled. "No Dear. Today's their day off. Their all in the Guard's tower watching the football games." he said, re*censored*uring her. She groweledone last time before they continued walking. Soon, they were at the  exit. The guard at the desk was fast asleep, a bitten donut in his hand. "I Knocked him like hours ago. Wonder why he's still out." Chris said curiously, cocking her ehad as they walked past him.

Wonderful.  ^^  I really want to read more of it.  There are a few places where commas can be used, and you might want to start a new paragraph when a new person starts spaking, but other than that, it's fabulous.  :D
