On The Run

Emily, stood back and breathed in the cold winter air. Winter is her favorite season.  It's so cold yet the wilderness looked so beautiful whether it was covered in a thin or thick blanket of snow. Emily smiled admiring the beauty of nature but was quickly startled by the rustle from some bushes nearby. She pulled back two shrubs and looked down at the ground thinking that a squirrel was probably making the noise but to her surprise nothing was there. Emily, looked up and what she saw made her stare in awe of the beauty in front of her. After, regaining her composure she stood shocked at what she was seeing. It was an Adolescent buck staring straight at her. It was the first time she'd ever seen a deer in real life. Slowly, she began to tip-toe towards the unfazed buck.  It took all her focus to emit a calm and admiring energy tow to the deer, As she was about to take her last step a snap of a twig was heard in the distance. The sound sent the buck bolting faster than lightning. Emily, stomped her foot down in frustration but peddled forward to run after the buck.

The girl desperately wanted to touch the deer even if was just on the tip of his nose. She followed it closely not missing a turn, duck, or jump it made. It's almost as if they were moving as one. Then suddenly the buck stopped and Emily ran straight into his backside. So much for moving as one. She fell back into some bushes right as a dart was shot into the buck's hindquarters. "N-" Emily tried to scream but a big cold hand covered her mouth. She struggled to break free from what appeared to be a man's tight grip. The man bound her hands together with rope and shoved her out in the open next to the buck. The man walked out from behind Emily and bent down next to the buck. He caressed his horns with an evil gleam in his cold brown eyes. "Ah, these horns are gorgeous for such a young buck. Too bad he'll have to live without 'em," he paused as a smirk crept onto his face "for a little while anyway." He chuckled. Emily kicked the ground furiously. "Get you're filthy hands off him you heartless poacher!" One of the two men standing together moved towards Emily and smacked her across the face so hard that she fell back. Emily spit out the blood coming from her lip. "Hey now, Tucker. Can you at least give her some respect? She did lead us to this deer." The man said petting Emily's head. "She's a fine catch herself." The man named Tucker said with a suggestive gleam in his eyes. The man moved his hand from Emily's head and she lunged at him to bite it but he was fast. "For a girl with such a pretty face you sure act like an animal." The man laughed. Emily growled.

Ignoring Emily the men worked together to lift the buck into the back of their pick up truck that was walking distance away. Emily shifted while they were busy to get her pocket knife that she almost forgot about and cut the rope just enough that kept her hands together but easy to break free from. After that the guy who seemed to be in charge sat in the front seat while Tucker and the other man grabbed Emily to put her in the backseat of the vehicle. Emily already had an escape plan. Right when Emily was about to climb in she kicked the man from behind, broke free of the rope and elbowed Tucker hard in the face. That's payback, Emily thought. She got in quickly and slammed the door shut. The man in the front grabbed her by her shirt but Emily hit him with a nasty uppercut leaving him stunned. She put him in a choke hold as she opened the front door. Jumping to the front she released him from the hold and kicked him out of the car. Emily stuck her tongue out at the man but her revenge was cut short by her taking the wheel to avoid crashing into a tree. She closed the door and tried to drive the best the she could from the little experience she had. Emily was only 15 and only got one lesson in driving a car and that was a long time ago. Luckily this part of the forest was pretty clear.

An hour had passed and she saw the buck's head shoot up from the back up of the truck. He looked disoriented and moved frantically about in the back. Emily stopped at a river and got out the truck. She went to the back and let the buck out. He stumbled out of the vehicle and he wobbled as he walked about. He trotted to the river and bent down for a drink but plunged in face first into it. Emily placed her hand over her face. The buck walked out the water shivering but it seemed like the cold water helped him get back to normal. When Emily looked at the buck again he was just staring at her like the first time they saw each other. Emily, started again walking slowly towards the soaking wet deer. As she got closer she noticed his features. His little black nose, that beige tuft on his head that was a different color than his tan fur, and his horns. No wonder the man liked them so much. They were gorgeous. She outstretched her hand as she got close enough and he leaned forward and pressed his muzzle against her. He emitted a gently and loving energy within him. 'Yukael' Emily thought but it wasn't in her voice. Almost as if whispered to her. "Yukael? Is that your name." She asked the buck.

The buck opened his eyes for he was enjoying the touch at the moment and he seemed to be saying yes. The buck looked as if he was pleasantly surprised. They're union was cut short when Tucker's voice was heard. "Look Boss, they're over here!"  Emily instinctively climbed onto Yukael's back and he bolted across the river and into the woods. It was then that Emily and Yukael knew they were in for an adventure.

Here. By the way, I'd recommend to use words other than 'see' and 'stare'.

Yukael’s Explanation

“Yukael…” Emily’s voice trailed off as he ran. ‘Hush, Emily. I need to focus.’  Emily heard a deep voice com from Yukael. “You can talk?!” she exclaimed in shock. ‘Did you see my mouth? Try again.’ Yukael stated dryly. Emily realized he was channeling his thoughts to her. Taking a deep breath in and focused. ‘How are you doing this?’ she asked. ‘I think you just figured it out. Now if you’d excuse me I would appreciate the silence.’ Yukael teased. Soon after Yukael began to increase his speed gradually. Emily could no longer take in the scenery. Everything was a blur.

Yukael stopped suddenly and Emily jerked wildly as she almost went flying. She looked like a wavy tube man. “‘Must you always do that?” she chided.  He ignored her and Emily looked up and her hand covered her mouth. Where she was it wasn’t winter anymore; nor was it any just one season. In some parts it was summer and other fall. It was so beautiful. And there were so many animal. Oh, all the animals! There were animals that didn’t even belong in this kind of enviroment. ‘This is where all the guides come to gather and work with others.’ Yukael told Emily. “Guides?” Emily asked aloud. Some animal looked at her direction and she knew they were channeling to each other. ‘Spirit animal guides. People usually refer to us as just Spirit animals that symbolize what traits humans have or strive for but we are living guides within others.’ Yukael explained.

I thought I’m not supposed to see you and how can others see you?’ she wondered. ‘You are waking up and so is the world. We’re only seen when we choose to show ourselves. The world is entering a new dimension for it’s vibrations is increasing.’He began to walk as he continued to explain and Emily followed listening closely. ‘As your spirit animal I’ve guided you in ways you barely realized. I’ve appeared in your dreams, given you warnings of what’s going to happen in the future, and I’ve found objects that you have lost.’ Emily stepped in front of Yukael. ‘You’re telling me you can do all this but can’t defend yourself or sense when you’re about to get shot in the butt?’ Emily asked in thought without noticing.

Everything happens for a reason and sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop it.’’ At that point Emily got quiet. What Yukael said reminded her of her grandpa Rubin. He was a wise man but because he was old everyone thought he was senile but Emily knew that wasn’t the case. Well when she was young anyway. Eventually her parents got her to believe he was crazy but deep down she had a little hope of what he told her was true.

Yukael stopped at a fountain. It was filled with color and gave of a smoke like aura of a shimmering violet. The water was rainbow colored. Yukael took a sip of the colored water. ‘Yukael? I was wondering how do you freeze water? Emily asked in a sheepish tone. ‘You’re love for winter has given me power.’ Emily froze like as she was the water Yukael stepped on. The strange deer reminded her of her grandfather in more ways than one. It’s like as if he knew him or as if he was him.  Yukael looked at her with his dark black eyes like he was reading every page of her soul.

He smiled and moved his head in way saying get on. Emily wrapped her arms around his neck as she got comfortably on. Her heart was beating wildly because she felt scared of Yukael. He was so mysterious and she had no idea why she even followed him or believed him but it just felt so true. Yukael closed his eyes for a moment as he trotted onwards. Within a few steps they were out of the multiple seasons world and near Emily’s home. Yukael trotted to her house. Emily got off and turned around to say goodbye but he was gone. Words echoed in her head. ‘Everything happens for a reason.

Emily looked up at the sky and it looked like it was about to rain; it was also getting dark. It’s been a long day and I could use some rest, Emily thought. Covering her mouth as she yawned as she opened the door that was surprisingly unlocked. Usually the door was unlocked when her parents were expecting her. Emily walked in and took off her coat. She heard a set of footsteps coming down the stairs. Emily waited and saw her mother and father hold hands and holding each other. Emily smiled and went to lift her hands to hug them but she hesitated. Her father was looking at her mother with sorrow in his eyes. Emily knew that look too well.

Emily dropped her coat. “Emily…” her father paused as her mother suddenly bursts into tears. “Granpa Rubin died.” Emily’s mother who was crying had now dropped to her knees and started bawling..  Emily quickly ran to her mother and held her tight. She couldn’t hold back the tears. Soon Emily’s father joined the two huddled on the ground and they mourned together.

Grandpa Rubin

Emily found herself and her grandfather’s home and sees him sitting on his rocking chair. She was a 6 year old little girl again. She had her hand clasped in the other, her back hunched, and her head tilted down as she approached her grandfather. Her grandfather smiled and chuckled. “No need to be scared. Come, sit in my lap.” Seeing his warm welcoming Emily ran to the man and sat on his lap. He brushed a hand on her head as he rocked back and forth in his chair on the porch. Emily yawned and closed her eyes as she laid her head down on her grandfather’s chest. He smiled warmly as he held her face while she drifted off into sleep. Rubin the old man heard growling in the distance. He held Emily tightly as a pack of wolves appeared from the forest.

Emily rubbed her eyes for the movement had woken her. She clung to her grandfather as he backed away from the strange looking pack of wolves. The wolves were black and darkness clung to them and created an aura around each wolf. They all white intimidating eyes. One growled and barked at Emily. Emily grips grew tighter as she closed her eyes in terror. “It’ll be alright, Emily. I’ll protect you.” He comforted Emily. A wolf lunged at the man but he dodged and it crashed into the door. Rubin jumped over the balcony and walk backwards away from the wolves. The wolf that crashed into the door recovered and the other were planning their next move.

Another wolf lunged at the arm that held Emily and he bit down. Rubin cried out in pain and Emily fell on the ground. Another wolf attacked him and the two other surrounded Emily. One went to swipe her but then time completely paused. Emily was 15 again. Her grandfather was the only thing not frozen. He was older but he still looked the same and he was giving her that same warm smile. Rubin outstretched his hand and Emily took it and got up. “Hello Emily. I’m sorry you didn’t get to say goodbye before I transcended to the next world.” Emily wondered if she was really seeing her grandfather. “How can this be.” she asked. “I know you must be confused but when we die we are either reincarnated to learn important lessons or we find out higher selves. I chose to find my higher self and if I want, I can come back to earth to  guide others on their journeys.” her grandfather explained. Emily cocked her head to the side in absolute confusion.

Her grandfather placed a hand over his face. “Yukael was right you have a lot to learn.  You won’t understand everything right away but in time all will unfold.  Do you remember this day Emily?” he asked. “No, I don’t remember it at all.” she answered. “That’s what I expected. I erased your memory of this event to protect you until I knew you were old enough to handle this. Now, I knew my time was coming to an end and that’s when I contacted Yukael your spirit animal. I knew that’d it be difficult to take the news of my passing so I distracted you.  He wasn’t just a distraction though.  You need him.  He’s going to teach you all the things I didn’t get to teach you because your parents convinced you I was senile and kept you away from me.  Although right now I need to teach you something because I foresee something you’ll need to prepared for. Yukael won’t make it time and you cannot fail.” her grandfather explained. Emily remained quiet but let her grandfather know she was listening.  She was very confused and it was hard to take in all this at once. Why are the wise people always only telling you what you need know and not the whole story?

“You see these wolves you need to “purify” them. They have been tainted and turned into dark spirits working for those of lower dimensions. In order to purify tainted dark spirits you send love to them. Tainting is done by using hate. Purifying is done by using love. Remember this hate binds you to someone but love helps you let them go.” her grandfather told her. “Why are they tainted? For what purpose?” Emily asked. “They are tainted to bring the vibration of the world lower and into dimensions with little understanding of infinity. To blind you from the truth. The reason they attacked mainly you is because they see a light in you that will be hard to burn out.”

Emily paced with her hand on her chin. “So how would I exactly use love to “purify” these tainted wolves?” Her grandfather thought for a moment and then spoke. “When I was younger I used a technique taught to me by my spirit animal. Since you aren't as advanced yet you can use your hands to purify them. Think of love as cosmic energy. Taking deep breaths imagine the energy swirling inside you and then imagine it moving into your extremities. When you’re ready you can then purify them,” her grandfather paused for a moment and then started again. “There are certain points on the body of an animal, human, or some other species that you touch in order to purify tainted beings. You can touch the head centering your palm between the brows of the being. Touch the back of the head closer to where the stem of the brain would be or touch the chest of the being. Touching the heart is the fastest way but tainted beings guard have all their dark energies surrounding their chest.” Rubin paused and looked at Emily with a dark ex
pression in his eyes.

“If your heart is not pure enough or if you feel any sense of fear while doing this you will be consumed faster than you move your hand.” Rubin clapped his hands together and smiled. “Ready to do this?” he asked. “I don-” Emily was cut off by the snap of her grandfather’s fingers and the wolves acting as if nothing ever happened. Emily was on the ground again and the wolf was going for her neck. Quickly she focused and placed a hand on the wolf’s head slowly it started to purify.

It wasn't going fast enough the next wolf bit down on Emily’s wrist. She did her best not feel scared but the purifying on the other wolf was reversing. Emily ripped her hand away from the other wolf and placed a hand on it’s head. She remembered the love for her grandfather and as they were purified they shot backwards. Before Emily could even catch her breath the other wolf pounced on her. In the air she placed a hand on it’s head and transcended her love into it’s soul and it purified. He shot back just like the others.

Then all the wolves got up and walk into the forest like nothing happened. Emily breathed heavily trying to catch her breath. She dropped her to her knees. All the fear she suppressed started to overwhelm her. The pain in her wrist got worse and when she looked at it her eyes widened. Black essence was coming out of her arm like it surrounded the wolf like a flaming aura and it was like a liquid traveling up into her veins. The pain became unbearable as Emily screamed and kicked around.

Her  grandfather ran to her side. “Emily hold still.” he told her. Emily bit clenched her teeth hard as pain seared through her arm. Her grandfather gripped it tight and a glow emitted from his hand as he pulled the black liquid from the wounds in her wrist. The liquid then turned white and vanished.  Emily sides heaved but then slowly stopped as her breathing resumed to normal. She held her wrist to her chest still in pain.  “It will hurt for a few days even though the essence is gone. Try not to get bitten, scratched, or any of the sort or you’ll be tainted slowly. Since you’re still learning you’ll probably get hurt often so Yukael will help you. I have to go now. Good luck Emily.” Rubin told Emily. Emily looked up he was gone and now she was falling.

Emily shot straight up. It was just a dream, Emily thought. She grabbed her wrist in pain looking confused. Everything felt so real to her. Then Emily wondered how she got in bed. All she remembered was crying on the steps. Well the good thing was Emily no longer felt sad about her grandfather’s death because she could still see him if he chose to show up again.  She still couldn't believe what happened in a dream manifested in the real world and that she actually could have been “tainted”.  Pulling down the covers she got out of bed and went downstairs. Her father was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Emily’s wrist was really hurting her. “Good Morning, Emily.” her father told her. “ ‘Morning, Dad. Um, do we have any pain killers?” she asked. Her father put down the spatula. “Sure, just a moment.” He dusted his hands off the apron went into the downstairs bathroom and came back with a bottle of Tylenol. “Here.” he said as he gave it to her.

Emily went to the counter got a glass and filled it with water. She rested it down and tried to open the bottle with her bad hand. She gripped her wrist in agony.  ‘No wonder I’m  literally half blonde.’ she thought to herself. Emily indeed was half blonde. The other half of her hair was black. Emily’s father is Asian and White. While Emily’s mother is Black and Hispanic. Her father’s hair is blonde because of his mother and her mother’s hair is black. This was caused by a mutation in her genes. Emily’s father caught glimpse of her hunched over in pain. “What’s wrong, Emily?”  Emily stood up straight. “It’s just my wrist. I’ll be okay.” Her father furrowed his eyebrows. “Are you sure you’re going to be alright?” he asked. Emily nodded her head quickly and then took the pain medication. Today was going to be a long day for Emily.
