Running Free
(A wild horse role play.)

Okay, well it's just us role playping wild horses.
Humans might be added in later.

Their Land:

They live far up in the mountains that are heavily vegetated. In winter, it's cold and snowy and summer is warm and sunny. Their is a dense forest and waterfalls and rivers take up this land.

Predators:

-Bears
-Mountain Lions
-Wolves

Bears are higher up in the mountain but they come down to the river.
Mountain lions live around the same area but they don't go into the forest. They prefer to hide in open area with few trees and caves.
Wolves live a little below, they come up for winter because most prey hide up where there is more vegetation.

Herds:

-Low mountain
Quite aggressive and territorial.

-Mid mountain (I'm this herd.)
'Friendly', allows other herds to come for water and allows them to eat vegetation on the skirts of their territory.

-High mountain
Tough and strong.

Normal rules?
No god-modding, gary/mary sues, etc.

Make your own bio? Or copy mine? Or don't make one at all? Whatever.
I'm just gonna have 2 horses.

Name: Tornado
Age: 6
Gender: Stallion
Breed: Freisian
Appearance:
Personality: Tornado can be stubborn, anti-social and unkind but he can also be friendly. You'll see his bad side when he's angry or sad. He gets frustrated easily, especially with the foals. His punishment is known to be harsh. His good side is caring and kind. He's an excellent fighter, he has good stamina and speed and can easily jump if he has too.
Herd: Low mountain
Rank: Lead stallion
Mate (y/n): N
Foal (y/n): N
Other: He was a highly prized dressage and showing horse. He ran away before going to the Olympics. [Obviously he didn't know that though.]

Name: Rose
Age: 5
Gender: Mare
Breed: Mustang
Appearance:

Personality: Rose is a shy yet caring horse. She's more of a perfect school pony than a wild mare. She's friendly to those who are close and prefers not too fight. She will fight if threatened.
Herd: Mid mountain
Rank: Nothing important.
Mate (y/n): Her mate died.
Foals (y/n): N
Other: She's heavily pregnant. Fosters Bandit.

Name: Bandit
Age: Less than one year
Gender: Colt
Breed: Mustang
Appearance:
Personality: Bandit is a young trouble maker. He likes to adventure the forest with the other foals. He's brave and is easily provoked to fight. He's caring and friendly to those who are close.
Herd: Mid mountain
Rank: None
Mate (y/n): N
Foals (y/n): N
Other: Mother died, Father [Hurricane] left her to join high mountain. Rose fosters him.

okay my turn

Wildflower
mustang
5 moons old
high mountain herd mare

a bit of a free spirit Wildflower is really only concerned with her young friend Bolt (only foal that took a liking to her)

Wind-chaser and Bolt
mustang/clydesdale
12 moons and 1 moon
high mountain herd lead mare and foal

Wind-chaser is one of the toughest mares to date to lead the high mountain herd. Her knowledge of the land is only surpassed by that of her grand-mare who passed a few moons ago(she was an escaped tame horse that started to lead the band when she found it). Wind-chaser has taken all she has learned and mothered many colts to the band leader.

Bolt is a very shy colt, he doesn't quite understand his own strength as of yet and often finds himself in a bit of a mess when he exerts himself too much. Loves to follow Wildflower around.

Okay. Take a look at the herd names. I have a new horse now. You can see him in my first bio now. And then you can start. (Or I can.)

(i will also the pic didn't show up for Tornado)

Wildflower stood under the shade of a small pine, her blonde mane blowing gently in the breeze as her tail swatted at a few pesky bugs. Her flank shook slightly a fly landed near her back causing her to crane her neck and rub her teeth on the spot where it had landed. She stomped her back hoof in frustration causing the little colt that laid beside her to stir.

Bolt quickly got to his feet and shook his head then his shoulders before the rest of his body followed suit. The young colt's brown eyes opened and looked over at his friend. "Is something the matter Wildflower?"

Wildflower gently chuckled before looking down at the colt. "It's okay Bolt, I'm just getting anxious again." She sighed as she looked down the short slope that the herd was grazing on. "I just wish Gemmology and Wind-chaser would move the herd a little more. I get anxious being in the same area for long periods of time and we've been here for almost a week." Wildflower stomped her hoof and shorted softly, before sighing and looking back over at Bolt. "But the ales of a mare are nothing for you to worry about young friend." She gently groomed his neck before heading back down towards the herd, Bolt bounded after her kicking his legs up and jumping into the air.

Wind-chaser looked up at her herd, the wind taking her mane and letting it fall gently against the side of her neck. She looked to the side of the slope and watched her colt and Wildflower trot down into the mass of the herd. "At least she's staying out of trouble today and sticking close." she muttered to herself before munching on some grass. Her thoughts were never too overpowering, Wind-chaser knew that a sloppy lead mare could get her herd killed. Any chance she had Wind-chaser would stand guard on the outside of the herd, threatening any advancement, whether it be horse or predator.

[Updated.]

~Rose and Bolt~

Rose munched up some grass as she followed the herd. She followed the short bay with black stripes on his leg. Kwagga, the lead stallion. "Are we almost there?" An anxious foal asked behind her. Rose flicked the mane out her eyes to crane her neck towards the foal.

Bandit looked at her with wide eyes, Rose shook her head. She was unsure herself. "Almost." Astro replied to the foal. She had come from the back to speak to Kwagga. Her high stepping trot showing off to the herd.

She spoke in his ear and he snorted, his head rising and looked around. His eyes were wide and his nostrils flared, the big mare towered above the  old stallion.

She whispered again and he nodded, "Let's pick up the pace." Kwagga called out. Rose looked around, Shaz nodded. "Kwagga, go ahead. I'll stick with Rose." Kwagga turned around and gave her questioning look before looking at Rose's huge belly.

"Call out if you get behind." he said, turning around and picking up a canter. The horses following, leaves crunched under their hooves and they disappeared.

Rose snorted and picked up a trot as Shaz nudged her. She slowly got use to the bumps before going into a canter. "Slowly Rose." Shaz muttered. As they neared the lake, Rose saw movement out the side of her eye.

Paws started running alongside her. She snorted and she started to gallop, her tail streamed out behind her and she galloped into the clearing near the river where the other horses were waiting. "Go through the river." Rose shouted, panting already. The herd spun on their heels and galloped towards the river.

They dove in and swam to the other side. Rose leapt in and White turned around to help her cross. "Thank you." Rose mumbles. She kicked her powerful legs and jumped out the other side.

Everyone was out safely and the mountain lion yelled out. Rose snorted, Kwagga led the way and they moved to a pasture. This would be their home for awhile.

~Tornado~

Tornado snorted as foals came galloping past him. He reared then kicked his legs into the air, his owner had taught him these moves years ago but they were still fresh in his mind.

His black mane went into his eyes and he stumbled on the landing. Laughs from the foals were heard and he stamped his hoof, silencing them.

Crusader cruised over to him, "Calm yourself Tornado. They're just foals." she mumbled. Tornado shook his head before starting to graze again. Wind trotted over, a beautiful grey mare. "Wind." he mumbled between mouthfuls of green grass. "I'm sorry about the foals, Tornado. They're just a bit bored for being here for so long."

Tornado snorted, his head rising quickly and he knocked Wind. "Sorry, sorry." he mumbled, helping her regain her balance. She rolled her eyes and shook her mane.

"I guess we should move along." he mumbled to himself.

He gathered his herd and moved them up hill, winter was approaching and he wanted to be close to the mid mountain herd before winter approached. He glanced around, there were no wolves in sight since some hunters had come.

They had lost some horses but they would survive. He pick up an extended trot before going into a collected canter. Horses admired him for his beautiful gaits. A dressage horse for sure.

A short gallop led them further up the mountain, his hocks propelling him up the hill. The other horse struggled to keep up, he slowed down as they neared a crumbling wall. It had always been there. "Everybody alright to jump?" he asked.

A few heads nodded, "Foals, take the smaller part of the wall." he instructed. They nodded, before turning on their hocks to get their run up. He watched them start to gallop, "Not so close!" he neighed. The other two started to slow down but they slowly picked up their pace.

They jumped clearly, he watched the other horse jump. Two stumbled on the landing and one knocked the wall. He sighed, he picked up his collected canter and cantered strongly to the higher wall.

Three, two, one. He jumped and arched his neck over the wall. A beautiful jump, as always. He flicked his tail and bucked before arching his neck and leading the herd in a gallop up the hill.

He slowed down as they neared the pasture for the night. They would stay for a couple days.

Wind-chaser lifted her head as the wind brought a familiar scent to her nose. She snorted harshly as she pinned back her ears and stomped her hooves in front of her as she ran towards the herd. "Everyone move!" She shouted as she nipped at the closest one's hind quarters. The mares and stallions fled away from her teeth not understanding what was going on. Wildflower and Bolt both came running over to her side before getting brushed away with Wind-chaser's heavy shoulder.

"Wind-chaser?.... is there a bear about?" Wildflower asked, this question made Bolt shake terribly. They young mare brushed her flank against his as an attempt at calming him.
Wind-chaser snorted even more loudly than before, her nostrils flaring so widely it was almost as if she could smell the whole world. "Wildflower I need you take Bolt and get with the rest of the herd." Before Wildflower could protest against leaving her behind Wind-chaser bucked slightly grazing her back hooves against her chest.

As Wildflower turned to run a large bear came lumbering from the woods. His eyes sunken in and his mouth dripped saliva. He had been following the herds scent for days and figured a foal would make for an easy meal. He stopped in his tracks just outside the treeline when his gaze met Wind-chasers. The lead mare did not falter for a moment. Her muscles tensed up, ready to run towards or away from this enemy.

The bear stood on his hind legs trying to make himself appear bigger, but this did not fool Wind-chaser for a second. She puffed up her chest snorting wildly before charging towards the bear. Her head low and teeth ready to bite. The bear stepped back, falling to all fours. He had never met a prey that would so willingly fight back. His mind was a flurry of concern, so much so it had clouded the part that had been watching the mare. Now a mere 20 yards away Wind-chaser let out a shrill whinny which brought the bear back to his senses and sent him scurrying back into the treeline.

Wind-chaser followed after him nipping at his hind end before turning back and galloping towards where her herd had fled. Once she caught up to them she took lead and turned them towards the mid mountain area. Winter was coming, she knew the bears would be needing to fill up their bellies before hand and knew that there was safety in numbers. Wind-chaser hoped that the mid mountain herd would be just as hospitable as it had in previous years to allow them to stay until the first snow.

~Rose and Bandit~

Rose left Bandit to graze as she trotted over to Kwagga and Astro. "Shouldn't some horses go to find the other herds? They should be nearing hear by now." Rose asked. Kwagga snorted and turned around sharply, his hearing was going and he didn't hear her come up. Astro nudged Kwagga, unseen by most. Kwagga widened his eyes at her belly once again.

"I hope your not considering to go, Rose. That belly of yours is huge." Kwagga stated. She shook her mane and bared her teeth. Astro snorted, "Rose, that is a wise idea but you certainly can't go." Astro said, indicating more gently that she would give birth any day now.

"Of course not! Maybe let some horses go though?" Rose said, stamping her hoof at an annoying fly. Kwagga looked blankly at her before slowly nodding, his mind was probably going as well.

"Okay." he grunted. "Go get me Shaz, Moonlight and Hunter please." he muttered under his breath. Rose nodded and trotted along to fetch the horses. "Is it urgent?" Shaz asked. "I wouldn't consider it as urgent." Rose said. Shaz led the way at a canter up the hill.

Rose trotted to grazing foal. "What's that about?" White asked, walking over. "Yeah." Bandit said between mouthfuls. "Just some horses leaving to collect the other herds." She watched Shaz and Hunter spin around and then Kwagga and Moonlight left as well.

"I can't believe Kwagga is going though." Rose mumbled. White nodded, "He should retire, everyone thinks so." Bandit trotted off to play with the other foals leaving White and Rose to talk.

~Tornado~

Tornado slept through the night as the sun started to rise he picked up a canter to get his herd moving. The horses followed. He slowed down as they neared the steep rocky terrain.

"Let's go slowly, alright?" he said. He picked up a trot but slowed to a walk as he clambered over the thousands of tiny loose stones. It was easy for him but not so much for the foals. Mares nudged their foals up but one was struggling.

Tornado turned around, "Crusader, take the lead." he shouted as he walked down slowly. "Go on, Sun. I got Snow." he told her. She nodded and clambered up the hill.

Tornado nudged the foal up helping it all the way, they eventually reached the top where they could have a gallop. Crusader picked up the lead, Snow went to her mom and Tornado let loose. He bucked a few times and soon reached the lead, over-taking all the horses.

They slowed down again as they reached the border. They would wait here until invited in or it started to snow. Their territory was small, so they could easily get to the mid mountain herd's territory in a couple days.

Wind-chaser kept her herd at a steady pace through most of the night, only stopping so that the foals may rest. Her herd was very hardy but would soon need to refresh. She knew that river that separated the herd territories would be close and easy to find at first light. Bolt and Wildflower kept close to Wind-chaser throughout the next morning not daring to leave her side for fear of more predators lurking about.

By mid morning just as the dew had started to settle on the grass the herd came upon the small winding river that was the marker between the high and middle mountain herds. Wind-chaser gave a soft whinny letting the herd know they would be waiting here like they did in years past for the invite into the lower valley.

Wildflower watched as many of the other horses took to the water enjoying the last little bit of the melted mountain fed river. She looked down at Bolt who's lower lip quivered in anticipation. "You might want to get a drink while you can, the water wont taste this good through the winter months." Bolt smiled before running past the other foals and trotted into the river up to his knees. He took long deep drinks enjoying the taste greatly.

Wind-chaser neighed softly as she walked over to stand next to Wildflower. "You know you'll make a great lead mare someday." She calmly stated as she tossed her mane slightly. Wildflower dipped her head, slightly embarrassed by this statement.

"No one will ever be as good as you are Wind-chaser, you're not afraid of bears and can get the herd to do as you need them to." She sighed softly before looking up at Wind-chaser. She was surprised to see a slight smirk on her face. "What's that for?"

Wind-chaser looked down at her friend. "Don't think for a second that I didn't have the same doubts when my mother told me that those many moons ago." Wind-chaser leaned down to munch on some grass before continuing. "Its not about how brave or strong you are, its about the knowledge you learn along the way and retain to keep everyone you hold dear safe." With that Wind-chaser trotted across the river, her hefty body kicking up torrents of water as she made it to the other side awaiting the messengers to bring the invite.

[I like how active we are together. ;) Won't be on a lot today. Less than an hour now - sorry! :/]

~Rose and Bandit~

[There's not a lot for them currently. I'm gonna do the horses invite you in.]

-Shaz and Hunter-
Low Mountain

Shaz cantered down the hill, snorting as Hunter came closer. She let out a playful buck and galloped. Hunter threw his head in the air and whinnied. Shaz slowed down a bit, they would need to save their energy.

Hunter galloped past and tunred sharply on his hocks. "Come on, what you doing?" he asked, stamping his hoof. "Have you ever gone to the low mountain?" she asked. He shook his head, "You'll need to save your energy." Shaz told him, trotting past him.

He cantered to catch up and then trotted next to her.

-Quagga and Moonlight-
High Mountain

Quagga trembled as a cold wind whipped his mane into his eyes. His short frame not offering not much protection to the giant mare alongside him. "Would you like to have a break?" Moonlight asked politely.

Quagga snorted and shook his head, he picked up a trot to get over the steep terrain. Moonlight sighed as the old horse trotted, his legs in bad condition. She soon followed him, close behind in case he slipped.

They were close, she could smell the herd and the sweet smell of the river. Quagga picked up a strong gallop over the hill and Moonlight followed, catching up to Quagga quickly.

"Go ahead." he panted. She nodded and let loose, her mane and tail streaming out behind her. She bucked to get rid of some extra unwanted energy. She soon spotted the herd and went even faster. A couple strides before the river she stopped and reared, throwing her hooves in the air.

"Afternoon." she neighed. "Follow me. The lead stallion is a bit behind, but you'll see him soon. I have instructions to take you back to where our herd is grazing. This winter will be harsh and safety is in numbers. We have a lost a few, but so have you and low mountain. Of course, you don't have to join." she said. She led the way at a walk and soon Quagga joined them.

~Tornado~

I sighed in relief as I spotted two mid mountain horses galloping down the hill. I waited patiently at the bottom, awaiting an invite. A bay mare walked down while the grey stallion stayed behind. "Tornado, nice to see you again. Follow us, I'll explain a few things while we walk." Shaz said.

He nodded and walked next to Shaz. "This winter is harsh, we have already spotted frost on our grass." she said. "Yes, us too." Tornado replied. "We are allowing you to join our herd, along with higher mountain. We know the best places to graze and the best shelter. We have a smaller herd and so do you, we also want numbers for safety. Of course you don't have to join us, your free to do whatever but you'll have to be on the outskirts." She explained, the stallion joining them.

Crusader walked next to Tornado, "Of course we will join you. It sounds like a very good idea." Crusader said, Tornado nodded. "Good." Shaz said. She picked up a trot so they could get back quicker.

{i know we're so awesome lol and okay i have to work today anyways lol}

Wind-chaser called to her herd as she trotted to meet the mare. She bowed her head in respect before tossing her mane, a sign that she was finally relaxed. "It is good to know that our herd is still welcome here during the cold time." Wind-chaser looked up the hill towards the older stallion and smiled before trotting up to meet him. "Kwagga my old friend it is good to see you once again."

Wildflower sighed softly as she took up the rear of the herd nudging the younger foals across the small river. She looked over and snorted softly as she watched Bolt kick around in the water, half of his flank drenched from his play. "Come on Blot, we've been invited to stay in the middle mountain territory." Bolt craned his neck before walking up to Wildflower. His shoulder's shook slightly when a cold breeze hit his body.

Wildflower whinnied softly as they followed the herd up the hill. She then saw a familiar face. "Moonlight? Oh wow when did you start getting sent out for this kind of thing?" She shook her head softly, her mane tossing back and forth on her neck. Bolt waited by Wildflower's side as she spoke to her friend.

[Hi Gewel, damn has it been awhile. I've been on, if you've noticed. Everytime I come on and I sit here, thinking what to do. I'm brain dead and can't think of anything. Just wanted to give you an explanation, let's see if I can force something out.]

-Rose and Bandit-

After a quick game of tag, Rose gave up. Her belly was too big and simply annoyed her. "What's wrong?" Bandit asked, trotting closer. Ready to bolt if Rose tried to get him. "My belly," she rasped, "It's too big." She shook her mane, "Oh." Bandit said. "Will White play with me?" he asked, "I'm sure he will, if you ask nicely." she answered.

Bandit started turning, Rose knew she had to talk to him but wasn't sure when. Better now. "Bandit, before you go we need to talk." she whispered gently.

He pricked his ears and walked over, slowly. "Yes?" he asked. "Your father's coming. All the herds are joining, and you'll have to see him. If you don't want to talk to him, that's fine. Tell him you're upset and you don't want to, I'm sure he'll understand. If not, tell me. I'll try my best to explain." she talked softly to him, gently.

Bandit widened his eyes and stamped his hoof, "It's unfair." he muttered. "It is." she sighed, nuzzling him. He trotted off to go play with White, and Rose watched them play. Watching how good White was with the foals.

-Tornado-

Tornado followed the herd, walking alongside the leaders. It was a quick travel today, the herd was closer to them this year. "Closer?" Tornado asked. "We were moving and had a mountain lion encounter, we though it would be best to be on this side of the river." Kwagga explained.

Tornado nodded and they trotted down the hill before spotting the herd and cantering down. Tornado caught a glimpse of the low mountain herd being led over.

Once all the herds had arrived. Kwagga asked him to get the leaders and left him. Tornado watched Kwagga wait for them at the top of the hill.

Tornado shook his head and turned his gaze to the herd. He rounded up Crusader, Astro, Wind-chaser and Gemology.
