So, there has always been problems with new users popping on the SB completely disregarding the rules and i had an idea that hit me.

All New users start off with basically nothing. Maybe we could do a Newbie Pack but in a different way.

Before they are allowed to post in the SB or the Forums they should take a quiz.

They are allowed to read the rules page first. And then take the quiz.

For every answer they get right, they recieve a Newbie Item.. Something essential, basic, nothing too fancy.. But enough to get them started.

This might give some initiative for them to actually look at the rules, and hopefully apply them when posting. Plus giving them a start in the game.

A quiz is an interesting idea. I think the main reason I support this is because it rewards the new player with items if they are correct rather than punishes themfor being wrong.

We certainly need more welcoming featuresfor our new players.

Along with a quiz for items, what else could be done? What are some things current players wish they had when they were new?

I support this, I have been on sites where you have to answer a simple Questionnaire before being allowed to go anywhere near Forums or Chat.  The Questionnaire only being simple if you have read the site rules as they requested.

Oh items I wanted when I was a Newbie .... hum ... it wasn't even that long ago, a few clothes for my avvie, basic items to start of a few collections, Food and if they had been around I know I would have wanted a DK of some sort.

Would existing users have to do this, too? x3
Or just newbies? Because I am sure users that have been here for a while know the rules fairly well and I was just curious is if it starts will everyone have to do it before re-entering chat/fourms, acounts less then a month old, ooorrr?

And, to xee's question, some food for newbies would be nice. eue

I don't recall joining Res, so I can't really suggest what I would have wanted. xD A DK might be a bit much, unless everyone got a cheap DK (though this might make it even cheaper if everyone gets one. I dunno. o_O), but maybe some clothing items? I noticed that clothes can be mighty expensive, so something other than a 100k shirt would be nice. :P

Food and tu would definitely be good. And maybe something random (like a nice clothing item, or a weapon once battling's back up) out of a variety of somewhat worthwhile items? As Det said, it's always nice to have something other than the items you can always get for free, which happens to make them almost worthless in user shops.

I support this.  This idea wont only help the newbies but older users as well.

I joined res...almost two years ago?  I deffinatley think food would be good.  Perhaps something like a pizza because the pizzas supply 30hunger I believe?  A high amount to take care of a pet for a few days.  Umm...clothing would also be a plus.  I am sure many new users admire the HA feature.

Maybe some tu as well.  Nothing large.  Maybe 1k or something?

The basics could be some tu (nothing much, about 5-30k), food (pizzas/fruit, anything above 20 hunger), a few clothes and a few eggs, about 3-10 of them.

I support and agree with Quell's suggestion on what should go in the Newbie Pack though I think some Super Healing Potions should be included. p; A lot of newbies throw themselves (or rather their pets) into training within the first couple of days of joining. XD

I was thinking of what other help features could be available to new users..
maybe like a help quest? ... idk xD Like a game for users that have been on the site for less than 1 month that could guide them through the basics.. and in return the get Tu (5-30k)? For getting the question right. Or being able to find an item in the correct area?

That way not only are the familiar with the rules... but also the site aswell.

As far as DK's .. i really don't think this is a good idea.
And yes, i believe that older user's should have to take this quiz when it is opened.. Because there are a LOT of older user's that still don't have a grasp on the rules..
And yes i know that these items will become VERY not rare xD But maybe the items could be sorta random?
Like a random creatu egg.

This is great. I'm gonna sticky this thread so it doesn't get lost. I've been working on writing a welcome mail for new joins, as they get absolutely NOTHING now. We used to get a welcome mail and a job tower token.The job tower token is really what got me curious and exploring around the site.

I've been wanting to come up with ideas for an item to replace that token, so this is fantastic. Keep giving those ideas! :D

I think this idea is good as it is, Idunno how I'd improve it, personally.

Support! A quiz is a great idea, food especially is a thing that new users ask for. The next is how to get eggs, so you could implement a little tutorial that would give you some tu after doing each action. Like, after the quiz, the tutorial would pop up and say, "Welcome to Rescreatu! Now that you're here, how about we find some eggs so that you can hatch your very own creatu?" Then it would direct the user to the planets, let them choose a planet and they will pick up an egg. Then the tutorial will come back up and say, "your reward for completeing this action is _ tu" and then it will direct them to the hatchery to the hatchery and show the creatu list etc.

Well, you get my basic idea. Lots of new users constantly ask how to go there and how to do this, so a nice simple tut would be helpful for them and make the site less confusing. Along with the quiz of course.

The info on getting eggs is already on the Help page, its just ignored heavily lol. I plan on giving links to that page, the rules, support tickets, and help forums in the welcome rmail. They will be able to keep this and refer back when neccessary.

Any other ideas for a newbie item(s)? More posts please! =)

The newbies could choose 1 egg from each planet thats non seasonal for some of the questions, and maybe they can get a couple of clothing items and food!

This is a wonderfull idea because like you said,ometimes when new users pop up on the sb They tend to irrate me. with their questions and ignorance. (Although i do get annoyed easily)
