January 17, 2012 - Creatu Updates
A big thank you to wolfspirit25 for this creatu description update!

Berrok may seem tough at first, but they have a soft side as well. Despite their gentle nature they are extremely territorial. Berrok are quick to fight in defense of territory and loved ones. These fights are often extremely dangerous as Berrok are massive Creatu armed with sharp claws and deadly spines. Berrok are surprisingly fast for their size, able to take down small prey with ease once they get close enough. They use their strength to flip boulders to search for food. They can also use their claws to rip bark off trees to get at insects or dig up roots when food is scarce. They have been seen eating berries and nuts as well, especially enjoying them as a snack in addition to fresh meat.

The young will stay with their mother and father until they are old enough to fend for themselves. While they are growing the mother will do everything in her power to protect them, including chasing away the father if she deems him to be a threat. However, as soon as they are old enough to fend for themselves she will chase her own cubs off her territory to ensure that she has enough food for herself and her mate. As they grow, Berrok cubs turn from balls of harmless fur to dangerous predators with many weapons and defenses against attack.

Berrok need a lot of food and will get restless if they feel that they do not have enough. If a human intends to keep one it is best to ensure that the Berrok knows they have enough food at all times, even if there are other pets around. They make excellent guards and even caretakers for young children if they are kept happy. However, should a Berrok feel threatened or that they will not have enough to eat they are likely to turn aggressive to protect their livelihood.

Chimby are curious, loving Creatu. They live in large packs and crave the attention of their families. If left alone for long periods of time, they grow dejected and begin to mope. This is not to say that they must have constant attention. They like to strike out on their own for short periods of time to explore. They love to get into absolutely everything, squeezing into holes seemingly too tight for them and climbing to the very tops of large cliffs just to see what a scent was or to reach a particularly juicy berry. During these adventures, they often discover new fruit patches or animal dens for their packs to gather food in.

Chimby packs care for their young with no distinction between parents and relatives. The pack lives in large, maze-like burrows that the adults dig out with their claws and each room has a purpose. The largest is the nursery where the young sleep. All adults take turns dropping off food and cleaning the young. When the young are old enough to venture outside, the pack keeps a sharp eye on them as a young Chimby is an easy target for larger predators. If they cannot get the young back into the burrow fast enough, they will defend it using their large claws and teeth as weapons and their tails as whips or supports when they stand on their hind legs.

If you intend to keep a Chimby, it is a good idea to have more than one as they crave attention and will become depressed if you cannot give it to them. They need a lot of hard toys and foods to keep them occupied and to keep their teeth filed down. In the wild they chew on branches to keep their teeth short but if they are not given something to chew in the home they are likely to chew on the home. When kept happy and given attention, Chimby are wonderful pets and will surprise you every day with their lovable antics and curiosity.

Gondra are energetic, fun-loving Creatu. They are constantly flitting from tree to tree, playing hide-and-seek or tag with their clan. This keeps their metabolism high which, in turn, keeps them small and light. This explains how they are able to fly despite having such a sweet tooth. Gondra adore sweets, eating all the berries they can find in the wild and even stealing from humans on occasion. Their hard scales keep them safe when they go hunting for a sweet treat of honey and bees.

The clan collectively takes care of the young. No one member knows exactly who their parents or offspring are, only that they are one of the many in that particular litter or mating group. When they are young, their metabolism is even higher than when they are adults, so baby Gondra are almost constantly eating. This often gets them into trouble as they know no fear, confident in their speed. They sometimes grow bold enough to take sweet berries right out from under a Berrok's nose.

Gondra owners should keep their sweets locked up at all times if they want to have any left for themselves. If a Gondra gets its claws on a cookie or cupcake, chances are the owner won't be getting it back. The upside is that the same speed that keeps them just out of reach with the sweets keeps them out of reach of sleepy feet so there is no danger of stepping on them despite their small size. They adore the company of many humans and Creatu to play with and grow bored quickly on their own.

The Jaaku is a very unusual Creatu. When any Creatu dies, their spirit lingers for some time, hoping for their companion to return and reclaim them. If this does not happen, the spirit of the Creatu usually dissipates for good. Yet in some cases, the spirit retains far too much will in the form of anger or grief to simply let go. The spirit will then transmute its abandoned body into the form of an egg in order to give it a place to stay, safe and preserved.

Around Halloween, the eggs begin to appear around Relcore, summoned by an ancient magic which all spirits answer to. Those lucky enough to find and hatch the Jaaku egg will then find themselves with a Creatu companion made of pure, dark energy. They learn quickly to solidify their substance or become as insubstantial as they wish; sometimes insubstantial enough to pass through walls. As they grow older, they can even fade slightly, their body becoming more like vapor and difficult to see. They prefer wandering at night and occasionally enjoy spooking friends by showing just their eyes in the darkness.

Typically a Jaaku does not remember the circumstances under which its spirit became an egg, but should one begin to be ignored or abused it may remember. The Jaaku then becomes a Creatu of vengeance, and its harmless tricks will become more serious. Should you intend to keep such a Creatu, be certain your feelings are sincere.

The Malal is an extremely social Creatu. They live in herds for protection, often reaching as many as several dozen members. When the herd feels threatened they will put their weak and young between the stronger members and form a perimeter around them. The horns on the sides of their heads are not just for show, they make powerful defensive weapons as well. When determining the leader of the herd, they take great care not to use these horns as weapons but rather will butt heads with their other pair of horns.

Young Malal are carefree and playful. Adults in the herd keep a constant eye on them to make sure they stay out of trouble. They do not innately know what is dangerous and what isn't so until they learn through experience they are very likely to run into trouble if they aren't watched. As they grow the games the young play begin to reflect the things they will do as adults, such as butting heads or friendly games of chase.

Malal like a lot of space and enjoy being around others, even if they are of different species, so anyone that wants to own one should have wide fields for them to roam in and lead a social life. When spooked, they will back into a corner and occasionally charge if anyone gets too close so be sure to warn visitors just in case. Malal are great family pets and will protect those they consider part of their herd with their lives.

Zenirix are brave, loyal Creatu. They live in large packs which take turns hunting and patrolling their territory. When one member of the pack is injured the rest will take turns guarding them and nursing them until they are fully healed. They also take turns caring for the elderly and pups, working as a single, cohesive family unit at all times. Fights do break out but they are quelled quickly and the pack rarely holds grudges against their own. However, should another pack venture into their territory, they are likely to hold a grudge for many years. They mostly prey on larger animals, but in hard times they have been known to go after smaller prey or even eat berries if there is absolutely no prey to be found.

Pups are born in large groups so they always have someone to play with and practice the skills they need as an adult. They are inquisitive and must be constantly supervised so they do not wander off. As they grow, they start catching small animals around their den and roughhousing more violently. Once the adults see that they are strong enough, they will take the pups out on hunts, teaching through observation and practice so the pups can become helpful members of the pack. It is rare for a Zenirix to leave the pack but it does happen occasionally.

Domesticated Zenirix create strong bonds with their owners. Even if they are neglected for short periods of time, they will not hold a grudge and will continue to greet you as happily as they ever have. However, neglect a Zenirix too long and it will attempt to find other ways to meet its social needs, such as finding a new owner. They are not picky eaters and will eat any kind of meat so feeding them is not difficult. They enjoy the company of other Zenirix but a devoted owner is more than enough companionship. They are especially good for households with young children, protecting the child as if it were their pup and receiving the attention it needs at the same time.
