I wake to yet another day
Teaching others how to become more
Kiddies how to read and write
And maybe how to dream
I’m ordinary, this I know
Just another nine to five job
Mentoring the future of our world
While still living in the past
You cannot teach someone to dream
Unless you, too, have things you want to be
Maybe, one day, when I’ve saved enough
I’ll go on sabbatical, see the world
Until that day though, I’m still here
Running out of pencils, scissors, glue
Watching while another set of children
Go through my classroom, maybe they
Will be all the things they dream to be
Astronaut, Soldier, Princess, Spy
Well, maybe not a princess, or at least
Not to those who will not cherish them
