One time last year I was in the role play forums. I put up a high school role play board the first person who asked to was a person called Reinbella who seemed nice at first but once I started making spelling and grammar mistakes she turned into total female dog. She then took over my role play without my permission just because I was gone for 24 hours. The truth was that I wasn't really gone. I was infact reading every post that had been posted. Every since that had happened to me nobody ever joined a role play I created again.

Also for some strange reason I always seem to run into people on neopets who I dislike and hate enough to wanna see them die. There are an awful lot of grammar nazis on neopets.

Probably best not to name names, hun. ^^; It brings up old demons.

To answer your question, sortof. I have RPed with people who are just crappy for one reason or another, whether it be their attitude or Roleplaying. I've never had an RP hijacked from me, probably cuz I can seem rather snarky about Roleplays which I think may intimidate some people, but I have had people just ditch me rudely. And I tend to be a level above a lot of RPers here, especially now, so I think my RP plots are kind of like TL;DR for them. Great ideas are no match for laziness.

I don't roleplay (don't make me do it, I'm not interested). But I do find that there are a lot of nasty grammar nazis here. It's not that some people are lazy, some people actually have a lack of skills in the English language. A lot of people are quite young on this site and may not have great grammar skills. Even if some people are lazy with their writing, there is no need to be rude to them. In my opinion, there is no point in having great abilities in writing when your rubbish personality wise.

yes, its a bit frustrating that some people won't write properly, but snarky/rude comments won't get you anywhere. Who the hell is going to go 'Imma improve my writing!' when people are being rude to them? A more polite tone is a better persuasion. I used to be the 0/10 spelling test kid and the one that had the worst rngrammar/writing skills. I've improved craploads. Would have I improved rnwith hearing snarky comments from egotistic role players? No. ill b stilrn tokking leik dis.

Oh yeah, just so you know, if you're good at writing in an RP, that doesn't make you Shakespere. you're just a person typing on a computer to post content on a virtual pet site, not an actual author with books publish and in stores. You have no right to condemn people. It's like me punching people in the face for not being good at drawing. You don't want that.

Be nice and patient. Don't be a git because you'l just turn into the countless fictional characters that fell from grace accept having the inconvinience of not being fictional.

This is not the first time I've asked the res community to stop being grammar nazis and be a little more understanding. I just want to put out what I think out there. because all you people behave like pieces of trash even though I know you're not trash. Sorry to say.
(by the way, I left a few grammar mistakes in there to test your patience)
Oh yeah, if any of you roleplayers out there know of people who patronize others for not writing properly. Please show them this post. I'd like them to understand the situation from the other side of the arguement. I know I'm a bit more persuasive because I write properly.

Oh yeah, and with the whole 'stealing RP' thing. Yeah, I agree. That's kinda mean xD

Hear hear, Ping xD

I am a grammar nazi but I don't run around shoving corrections down people's throats, or comment on their weaknesses. That's just plain snobbish ;c (well, I'll do it to mein boyfriend, but only if he nitpicks with my mistakes first xD). I'm only obsessive about mistakes in my own writing xD Except for when I correct others' stuff once they explain clearly they're not sure how to spell it. And they seem grateful once I've helped. x3 The only thing that bugs me about illiteracy is when their sentences are so mushed up, they're near-indecipherable. But hey. I keep the hate to myself. People have feelings. Behind every typo is a personality who's liable to being offended by uptight little know-it-alls. Not everyone seems to get that...

And yus. This place is full of trashy people. That's why I hardly talk to anyone here :c I won't go pointing fingers though. That'll just turn me into a hypocrite, and I'm big enough of one already xD

I wish there was more originality in the RP Forums. It's all about stinkin' wolves and shapeshifters and ridiculous little romances. Hey, let them play whatever they want. But from my perspective it feels like they're stuck in this little bubble of repetitiveness :c I could be contradicting myself here, but finding a decent roleplay to join, played by clever minds, that will actually last, is so difficult. People just resort to their favourite ideas that have been recycled so often it's practically custom in the Forums to have seven threads dedicated to vampires of the night.

And art stealing.... Don't get me started bro. That is what gets me raging. I understand not everyone's got a knack of drawing. I'm not condemning people who can't afford Photoshop or a decent scanner or whatever, and it's stupid to think that everyone is capable of making masterpieces. People struggle, and feel self-conscious about their art to the point where they'd never dream of putting it up here. But I have masses amount more of respect for users who try to draw their OCs rather than roleplayers who resort to Deviants for character images, don't always credit the original artist, and fail let the thread last longer than a week. They steal a pretty anime girl for a character that is so badly developed, they'll only use her once. What about the real creator of this character? Did they spent minutes, hours, days or weeks working on that illustration? D'ya even care? Nope.

I don't see why you need to steal an image to show how your character looks like. Some users are clever and use character creation thingums (like HAs on res) to create an image of their characters.

I have to admit, I've read so many character profiles that are extremely poorly developed. They basically take a cliche character architype (most common: The quiet girl who is shy and rejected by her community. It is revealed later that she had a traumatic experience. The mysterious man who appears harsh to the main character, only to mask his true feelings for her. The evil guy that just has evil written all over him. The mysterious assassin (male or female). The boy who becomes an unlikely hero. The 'derp'. The ugly, awkward girl at school who has a profound talent. The list goes on. If you have a character that's like one on this list. You may want to reconsider their characterization.) and add nothing else. They may add one or two things, but not really.

Sometimes I think RPs can either stifle or promote creativity. If you're not too creative, you will get new ideas from RPs. But if you're quite used to saying creative, your ideas are limited to everyone else's ideas because you need to work as a group and get down to the same level. That's why all RPers that want to become a better artist (I don't mean drawing. I mean art in general, writing is an art in case you didn't know) should embark on their own solo projects. But they should never just regurgitate the kind of stuff they saw in an RP and this that's the standard of a novel. Because it's not D<

When I look at the roleplaying forums, and I'm sitting there a lot, I see the word 'romance' plastered all over the screen. I don't mind romance in a roleplay, no matter what kind it is, but most of these have to do with the classic werewolf, human, and vampire stuff. I try to have an open mind, and I'll sit and type a plot for half and hour, because I'm checking for spelling and gramar errors, and I'm also trying to make it catch peoples attention by being a little different that what is normally seen in the roleplay forums. I like there to be more than one major point to the plot, and I want that to show in the actual roleplay. I'll admit, I'm picky, but if someone is showing a lot of errors with spelling and gramar, I'd be ahppy to help. I know I don't spell every word right, but I've never had someone start criticizing me for it.

Sometimes I talk to people, sometimes I don't. It was a few months after I joined before I ever posted something in the forums, I'm glad I did, because now I have my omni, but I wasn't sure how the community worked, so I sat, and watched. I wasn't sure if I'd be accepted into it at all.

I prefer to describe my character through the roleplay. I suck with bios. I really do. I'll either post a really long personality and description, or just a few sentences and have a REALLY long intro. The more creative the RP is, the less time I spend on a bio. I'm wierd like that.

I've never had a thread take from me, but it's a very rude act to do so. I hope I never have to experience it.

I wouldn't consider myself a grammar nazi. I don't condemn people for their lack of writing abilities, but I'm definitely not going to go out of my way, or even worse let my creation suffer, to "nurture" their abilities.

I work hard on the plots I create. I want other people to help it thrive with their own spark of creativity. After all, that's what Roleplaying is about. If I didn't care about the creativity and input of others, I'd just write a book. Granted, it'd be a poorly plotted book because I like having a partner to bounce ideas off and put in input of their own, or even just watch their character do their own thing with mine without influence of a single mind. That is why I Roleplay.

The typical stereotype is that people with poor literacy also lack a lot of creativity. I'm not closed-minded to the concept of someone who is creative, but lacks writing skills, but I typically don't like risking it because it's typically proven true at least in my experience.

As for art theft. I'm going to admit I'm a huge offender, and it's not something I'm going to stop. Why? Because that's how my creativity works.
Let's face it, creating a character is hard. You are (if you're doing it right) creating an actual PERSON. Granted, it's a person that exists only within your mind and the minds of others, but it's still a person. It has a personality, likes, dislikes, appearance, history, it's a new life!
Doing that from scratch can be pretty difficult. Especially if you're like me and prefer to not use the same character over and over and over again. In fact, I usually like to keep characters specifically to one roleplay, because they're typically "custom made" for that Roleplay. I've reused characters on occasion, but they typically die with the Roleplay. I remember all my characters, and even those "almost characters" that I abandoned for a better concept. I'd love to use some of them again, but it's like taking a dolphin out of water. Sure, it'll live provided you feed it, but it can't really do much more than flop around and suffer.
It's a lot of work creating many new characters.
What some people need is inspiration, a starting place.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who take an image they like and slap it on a poorly developed character like you guys said, but I'm sure there are people like me who do things differently.
I look through images, usually on Google, until one jumps out at me.
In my head, it's a jumbled mess of ideas. It takes a lot to draw one out, and with characters, I usually have a mild idea what I'm going for, but it often doesn't take shape until I find an image.
I use that image as a "skeleton" for my character. The expression, pose, clothing, all influence and expand on themselves in my head until I have a useable character.
Without being able to use images, I might not Roleplay as much.
I have hundreds of OCs, and maybe only... fifteen are characters completely off my own creativity.
Like I said before, I rely on the creativity of others to really make most of my ideas work. So I rely on artists to give me that usual jump start.

Also, I would rather people use images than a poorly written description. I know the concept of thinking everyone can see what you can see from your writing, but honestly "pale, brown hair, blue eyes, short" doesn't really give a good mental image.

Admittedly, I used to be a pretty bad nitpicker. It shames me a little that sometimes even to this day my sister'll make the occasional joke about my need for perfect grammar, all because I just constantly shoved it in people's faces. And she's not even doing it to be mean or anything - she probably honestly thinks I still feel that urge for perfection in every word.

I was a huge hypocrite about it too. Some of my best friends on here were the most careless typers you'd ever see, and I never said a word. But if a stranger did it? BURN EM AT THE STAKE.

I kinda feel like it was a stage a lot of us went through though. I remember that when I finally did stop being so snooty, I felt like one of very few. It was such a popular thing to be mean to the less-than-literate. If you ever watched the Shoutbox in 2009, it was pretty much a given that at some point you were going to see someone say, 'Either type properly or don't talk to me.' Even if the accused chatspeaker had only abbreviated one or two words, or maybe left out capitalisation and a few commas. It.. it was a very cold atmosphere.

But hey. Things happen, and we just have to move on, right? We all act in ways we're bound to be ashamed of later on. It's okay.

Rather than dwelling on a person's past faults, why not try to move ahead, Jourdha? Join other people's roleplays perhaps, if you really want to get back into roleplaying around here. I'm sure it's not because of this little incident that no one joins yours. People simply like to join the roleplays of their friends, and unfortunately as a side-effect those by anyone else just don't get noticed. It's a little saddening, but it doesn't mean the whole roleplaying board has a grudge on you. x3 They just don't see you there.

In regards to all this other stuff.. ah. Personally when it comes to pictures and description, I like to describe. I suppose it's a combination of a little too much pride and just. The way I learned to roleplay. When I learned, around Res' roleplaying board it was pretty much unheard of to use a picture. So I never did and I never do.

Besides that, I suppose my bios pretty much have to include a lot of detail if I don't want my character to be faceless. I have this thing about keeping my writing from getting too bogged up with the physical details, so I tend to do a ton of description in my bio and then never mention a single physical detail about the character ever again. xD

I suppose I can afford to put a lot into a bio though - I hardly ever do them. I do like to create new characters for each roleplay I join, but that's just the thing. I never join new roleplays in the first place anymore. Honestly, the last roleplay I joined/bio I did was six months ago, during the summer. And the one before that had been almost a year earlier, in September 2010.

I guess I'd rather just stick with the ones I've already got. Or. One. I'm okay with just having one roleplay. I don't have the time to be on here writing multiple posts a day anyway - at least not with how long I take to write.

On romance.. I suppose that one does bother me a little bit. And that's exactly why I'm not going to go into it. xD I'll probably get carried away and start talking about the old days or something. Or at least the good part of them.

Besides, I really need to go to bed.

Better keep things to yourself just so we would not add more fuel to the fire here.  There are just people who can't come to terms with themselves and on those cases, you do not have to worry a bit because it is in their nature to work like that and we can't do anything about it.  In most cases, it is with their attitude that messes them up.  So unless they change, tides are to stay the same, unfortunately.

People who roleplay are intense people. The nature of roleplay is forming a story with multiple people. That being said while I feel some take it too far it is very reasonable that a person would expext a certain amount of skill when writing. Many silly mistakes and sentences that do not make sense do not make a good story and is not fun for someone who takes their hobby seriously. I can tell from your style of writing already that it wouldnt be very pleasant roleplaying with you.

If you dont like how someone treats you, it is up to you to find someone you enjoy roleplaying with that is more on your level. I dont think that posting peoples names is appropriate and i feel you should behave in a more mature fashion and handle conflict in a more progressive way. I feel rather than labelling people as female dogs it would be more beneficial to think back to the situation, deermine when it became a problem, and how to avoid it in the future.

Wait a minute! Why do you think it'd be unpleasant to role play okay with me? As a matter of fact. I honestly don't know why no one wants role play with no matter how hard I try. I don't ask for much. All I ask is that someone will role play with me and their replies will not be one liners or something that's the size of a pet page on Neopet's. I'm willing to please if you'll just give me a try. Please don't make me beg like a dog begging for a treat!

I used to be a grammar Nazi myself, though I've learned that just a simple correction once in a while is enough, and some people do it on purpose.  Just ask them nicely, "Thank you, but I don't like being corrected, would you please not do it again?"  That gets rid of a lot of them.

I'm not a roleplayer, i rarely write, my grammar probably sucks. If people corrected me after this post ; i'd be quite hurt o_o; . It's obvious why she got angry. Her actions clearly weren't the nicest however.  Gah. I've met a few people who were slightly more ruder on this site :c so i know how it feels.

Honestly, I fear RPing because of these personal... arguments i see around the website. xD. Sure, i can understand that there are people who get annoyed by bad-grammar and such ; but you must also consider that once the person reads and write more - they'll generally improve. :)

Though this may sound hard it's best to be humble and subtly teach them. Just don't 'correct them to an extent' .. to the point of where things get ugly. There isn't a 100% exact or correct way of writing a sentence, so there's nothing wrong with mistakes... Whether they're huge and noticeable or not. :/. "oh wow you need to put a comma here... an apostrophe here. Oh, spell your words correctly." etc. These comments makes you sound ugly and unpleasant. English isn't like MATHS thank you very much >( .

But by all means, as long as everyone in the rp can understand what the person is saying ; then I personally think it should be fine. o.o . There's no need for such... strict rules i see roaming around. Create a story. Go crazy with your imagination. Have fun. Make a new friend o_O;

As for taking over your RP. Wouldn't people .. see that you're the one who started the thread? o.o. Perhaps you went slightly too strict and people fear rping with you because they don't want to be judged like that themselves. (Or atleast i'd feel like that. xD) . I don't know - never role-played so i don't know how 'stealing a role-play' works. Just wondering.

Neopets and this webbie DOES have young children roaming around. Heck, before i hit high school i literally "TYPEDLYKTHIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". No joke. I was probably trying to sound happy or something whilst other people thought i was aggressively yelling.
Nowadays if i see somebody do that.. i wouldn't feel comfortable talking to them. LOL. But hey, let the children have fun, geez xD ~

Also.. just a note ~ Listing somebody's username and furthermore claiming them as a 'female dog' on a public forum is an act of rudeness.  Don't do that next time. Okies? :D.
