I own 3, a gorgeous marble red and white male, and a gorgeous, deep blue and orange male. Plus a female, who I'm trying to breed, but the males make a bubble nest and like...abandon making it. It annoys me. xD So they're just hangin right now. I let them be. c:

Sure, join away.

Had to put down Ciel/Larry, my red piebald Crowntail betta today. He was in poor conditions after a day of fasting last Monday.
Day by day he just got worse. He could have pulled through after a bit of aquarium salt but it just burnt his skin, the flesh at the tail area showing. I would have let him stay till nature just took him away, but he was in pain. How would you like it if the skin on your ...butt was shaved away and you were writhing in pain every single day? Knocking on death's door?
I floated him in the jar I first got him since last night to seperate him from the AQ salt just in case a miracle would happen. But no - this morning he became pale, to the extent where he looked creamy. His dorsal fins were erect but white instead of the usual bright red. Carefully I picked up the jar and placed three icecubes in the water, resting at room temperature. His breathing slowed, the amount of times he rose to drink in the air lowered. It took him seven icecubes for his system to shut off, like how it would in the winter if he were in the wild.
I would have used the clove oil method, but I don't have any. Besides, clove oil only works as anesthesia, before he would just drown as he was knocked out. If he didn't I would have needed to use vodka, something my house probably doesn't have. But what's done is done, and he's in the great fish pond in the sky now.
Rest in peace, little one. ♥

Twint- a 5 gallon is a good size for a betta. The general rule of thumb is one gallon for every inch long they are.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish, though. =( Did you dechlorinate the water with stress coat? Depending on the city water quality, it can kill a fish if you don't put Stress Coat or something similar into it.

Also, a note- betta are tropical fish native to rice patties of Asia. They don't generally have cold winters, but rather dry ones.

Better than letting him dry out I guess. -That- would be bad ._.

I actually never seen stress coat in aquarium stores at my area before, just used normal dechlorinator :c

I would like to join. :D
I used to have two betta fish. When I was 6, [or 5], my grandma got me two betta fish. I went to her house to see them. One was a beautiful red and the other was blueish. While my grandma was outside tending her garden, I was stupid enough to pick one of the fish up and plop it right down in the other bowl. I guess I thought, Why doesn't she keep them in the same cage? and soon enough: the blue one killed the red one, and my grandma came in right at the end. She thought it was funny, but I was really scared. Since then, I got myself another three, and I love them dearly. I have Marble, Ruby, and Sapphire. Marble is the oldest, I think I got him when I was 8, when my parents finally trusted me that I wouldn't kill them. ;-;
The others I bought when I was 10. :)
I don't know much about the colours, but I think Marble is a plakat. o-o
Here are some pics I found online that look similar to mine.
Pictures are not mine, repeat NOT MINE. :D

I've only got one guy right now, and he's making me worry ): He's a lovely dark blue with a black head, and he's got a stripe of bright red down the fin beneath him, but all he does is mope around on the bottom of the tank, or sleep on one of the plants we've got.
I'm not sure if he;s sick, or just plain lazy! He certainly doesn't LOOK sick...bleh. I'll be getting a water sample of the tank tested when I get the time anyway!

My friend has a whole bunch of betta girls though, and they all get along great. Surprisingly, they all hang out as a group and don't even nip at each other! Always surprises me when I see them xD
