Due to some recent resignations and one promotion, Rescreatu is taking applications for new staff writers. We're looking for creative, articulate people who can take direction and criticism well, don't require heavy editing for spelling or grammar, and are interested in telling stories.
Since I remember wondering what in the world I was supposed to include in my application, I'm providing suggestions. Please explain briefly why you want to be part of Rescreatu's writing department, and pick three of the following as examples:
-Two item descriptions. You may make up the items.
-A location description, preferably for a location that lacks one.
-A scene (of roughly 500 words) involving at least one of the Guardians or their statues.
-A story for one of the currently unwritten books.
-Past contest submissions, if you've entered any Rescreatu writing contests.
-Writer's choice.
In addition, supply a proofread copy of the following:
The Ancient Caves were earily silent at night. The clatter and chatter of the day were missing; a few hopeful digger's still lingered, but the walls of heavy stone and the dirt that laid thick on the floors muted any incidental sounds to a murmuring echo.
Two friends crept through the chambers and passages, keeping close to each other.
"Are you sure about this?" Whispered Amber. "I believe you found a new tunnel," she added hastily, not wanting to start that particular argument again, "but I'm not sure about exploring it when nobody's around to hear us if we call for help."
"I'm sure," Elemi tossed her head and waved the flashlight for emphasis. "Its probably no more dangerous then the rest of the caves. If we wait until daytime, someone else is sure too claim the discovery."
Amber sighed. "I think you're just being paranoid."
"Your too trusting. And look, there it is." Elemi lead the way into what looked like a dead end, but as she aimed her light at the deepest shadow in the corner, Amber saw that it was the entrance to a narrow passageway.
"We'd better mark our path," Amber said, "to keep from loosing our way." Excitement was thrilling through her now, but she didn't think wandering lost in the dark would be a fun kind of excitement.
"I ran out of glow-flares," Elemi said, "but I've got string. We'll just have to make due with it's guidance."

Writer Interviews
I am happy to be bringing you another writer interview segment. I hope that in doing so I am allowing you to get to know your writers a little better!
What is your favorite part of being on staff?
Schefflera: Having my writing used on the site. Not that I mind helping with organization, but that part is more because it has to be done than for the fun of it.
Tell us the best Creatu name you have heard or come up with
S: Hmm...I'm really fond of the names of the Mirabilis and Skaldyr. They seem to fit the idea and image so well.
What is your favorite revamped Creatu so far and why?
S: Hm... maybe the Valabex. It's so much more realistic and I kind of like the rugged look on the adult.
If you had to design a Creatu that represented you, what would it be like?
S: Ummm. A bookworm, a bee, a shrimp? Something iridescent, maybe, but I'm not sure how that would really work. Sorry. There's a reason I don't design Creatu.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
S: Reading, writing, talking to friends... a little beekeeping, a little cross-stitch....
What is your favorite book on and off Rescreatu?
S: On: Hmm. Well, I have a soft spot for my own. I liked Book of Holes and the legends of the Guardians. Off: Eep! Too many choices. Hmm. I'll cheat and recommend Support Your Local Wizard by Diane Duane. It's actually an omnibus of the first few books in the Young Wizards series; my favorite is High Wizardry, but as it's the third in the series it's a bit hard to recommend all by its lonesome. Still, the first (So You Want to Be a Wizard) is a close second.
Look out for more interview segments in future issues to get close and personal with your talented writers!
